DIRECTOR OF MARKETING AND COMMUNICATIONS

Job Summary:

The Director of Marketing and Communications at the East Texas State Fair is responsible for leading all marketing efforts to drive attendance, engagement, and revenue for the Fair. This role requires a dynamic individual with expertise in social media management, graphic design, media relations/PR, and event planning/execution. As a key member of a small team, the Director of Marketing will play a hands-on role in developing and executing marketing strategies across various channels to promote the Fair and enhance its brand presence and affinity. Reports directly to the President/CEO.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive marketing strategies to increase attendance and engagement at the East Texas State Fair.
  • Manage all aspects of social media marketing, including content creation, scheduling, community management, and advertising campaigns across multiple platforms.
  • Create visually appealing graphics, videos, and other multimedia content to support marketing initiatives, including promotional materials, advertisements, signage, and digital assets.
  • Oversee external communications by cultivating relationships with local media outlets, influencers, and community partners in order to generate press coverage and publicity for the Fair through strategic media relations and PR campaigns.
  • Plan and execute promotions to generate excitement and drive ticket sales before and during the Fair.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external vendors to ensure the successful execution of marketing campaigns and events, including coordination of logistics, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Serve as the lead website manager for the Fair’s website by collaborating with other departments to provide accurate and updated information to website visitors and optimizing online ticket sales.
  • Assist Director of Sponsorship in creating proposals for potential partners.
  • Monitor and analyze key performance metrics and insights to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing efforts and make data-driven decisions to optimize performance and ROI.
  • Collaborate on projects related to the future development of the new Fair site including fundraising initiatives and leading communications for potential donors, partners, or sponsors.
  • Stay informed about industry trends, competitor activities, and best practices in marketing to identify opportunities for innovation and improvement.
  • Provide support to the team, fostering a collaborative and high-performance culture that emphasizes creativity, teamwork, and accountability.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, or related field preferred.
  • Proven success in marketing/communications roles preferred.
  • Self-driven personality with ability to take ownership of projects and operate effectively with minimal supervision.
  • Strong proficiency in social media platforms and tools and graphic design software.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build relationships with media contacts, stakeholders, and team members.
  • Creative flair and attention to detail, with a passion for developing compelling content and visuals that resonate with target audiences.
  • Ability to work 16+ hour days during Fair season (late September).
  • Ability to travel to events, conferences, etc as needed.
