Plant Identification Contest

Date: Sept 20, 2024
Time: 9:00 AM - 12:00 PM
FFA and 4-H students across East Texas are invited to show off their skills at identifying common local plants and their characteristics!

There are no entry fees. Teams must be registered online and each participant must sign an indemnity form.

This contest is held outdoors. We highly encourage students to dress appropriately (long pants, closed toe shoes, hats, sunscreen, insect repellent, etc.). Conditions on contest day are not guaranteed and may include walking through woods or long grass, or extended exposure to direct sunlight.

The official Study Guide is in the PDF links. In the links to the right, teachers and students can download a curated guide to this year's Plant List, straight from our official source: Plants USDA.

The highest scoring high school senior will earn a $1,000 scholarship, while the highest scoring FFA Chapter and 4-H Club will each receive a $500 award. All awards and scholarships are sponsored by Smith County Soil & Water Conservation District.
