Contest Support provided by American Association of University Women, Tyler Chapter
For 2021, Spelling Bee WILL occur at the East Texas State Fairgrounds with modifications to number of entries and restrictions on who may be present for the contest.
Spelling Bee for 2nd and 3rd Grade students is a traditional spelling bee format. Students compete as a grade level and continue to receive words to spell in increasing difficulty until a word is missed.
A contest list is provided below for each grade level. Words are arranged in groups that increase in difficulty. In the contest, a group of words is used for one or more rounds. The group changes to the next difficult level when a round changes. A special group of words is set aside for the last three spellers.
- Each student receives a participation ribbon at the contest when a word is missed, eliminating the student from competition.
- 1st, 2nd, and 3rd places are awarded in each grade level. Placing students receive a medallion.
