When is the fair?

The 2017 East Texas State Fair is September 22nd - October 1st.

What time is the fair open?

The fair is open to the public Monday - Friday from 2:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Saturday - Sunday from 10:00 am to 11:00 pm.
Food vendors are open for lunch on weekdays from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm (free admission).

How much does it cost?

Tickets are $10 for adults (13+) and $6 for kids (6-12). Children under 6 are FREE!

Are pets allowed?

No. Any animals other than registered livestock or service animals are not permitted.

Can we bring our own food or drinks?

No outside food or drink is permitted.

When are the carnival rides open?

The carnival rides are open Monday - Friday from 4:00 pm to 11:00 pm and Saturday - Sunday from 12:00 pm to 11:00 pm. *On the last day of the fair (Sunday) the carnival will close at 10:00 pm.

Is smoking permitted?

The Fair has a strict "no smoking" policy. Smoking is not permitted anywhere on the fairgrounds.

Tickets & Wristbands

When can I use an Unlimited Ride Wristband?

Unlimited Ride Wristbands are valid every day except for Saturday after 5:00 pm.

When can I get in free?

You must purchase a ticket to attend the fair during operating hours. However, you may come for lunch Mon-Fri 11:00 am - 2:00 pm free of charge. While the fair doesn't start until 2:00 pm on weekdays, many food vendors will be open for lunch.

When are discounted ticket packages available?

Discounted ticket packages are available online until midnight the night before the fair opens.

How much are tickets?

Tickets are $10 for adults (13+) and $6 for kids (6-12). Children under 6 are FREE!

Where do I get tickets?

You may purchase tickets from the ticket booths at either entrance on the day of the event. Or, you can purchase tickets online. Discounted ticket packages are available online prior to the event.

Free Concerts

Can we bring coolers?

No. Any outside food or drink is prohibited.

Does a ticket to the fair include attendance to the concerts?

Yes. All concerts are free once you're in the fairgrounds. A ticket to the fair will permit you to all concerts.

Is there an age limit at the concerts?

No. However, please use your own discretion if bringing children into the concert area as alcohol will be present.

Is the concert cancelled if it rains?

It depends. We will do our best to continue the show as scheduled regardless of the weather. However, if the weather becomes a threat to our visitors we may cancel or delay the concert at our own discretion. Light rain usually is not grounds for cancellation. However, heavy rain, lightning, heavy winds, or other disastrous weather that threatens the safety of our visitors may result in cancellation. Please see our social media pages for updates in the event of inclement weather.

How much are the concert tickets?

FREE! All concerts are included in your ticket to the fair!

Are folding/lawn chairs permitted?

Yes, you may bring in your own lawn chairs. Please note that seating is provided in front of the concert stage. However, during larger concerts it may be hard to find an empty seat. Saturday and Sunday night concerts are typically "standing room only."


Are you open for lunch?

Yes. We are open for lunch from 11:00 am - 2:00 pm free of charge.


How do I become a volunteer?

An online form is available for you to register your interest in volunteering during the Fair. You will be contacted by the appropriate person if volunteer needs matching your interest are available. Some training may be needed for some volunteer areas.

Competitive Events

How do I enter any of the Competitive Events at the Fair?

Each contest has its own page on the website and contains information about deadlines for registration, dates to submit entries, rules and other information about each contest.

What are the different contests that I can enter at the Fair?

There are several contests which are open to both adults and youth. They are Creative Arts, Horticulture, and Photography. Find out more about each of these on their individual pages under Get Involved, then Competitive Events.
Other contests are just for Youth and may have age restrictions. These include the Pasture & Wildlife Plant Identification Contest and the Public Speaking Contest. Learn more about these on their individual pages, under Get Involved, then Competitive Events..

Can I win money by entering things in contests at the Fair?

Every contest has its own set of rules and awards. For specifics, see the individual contest pages.
Creative Arts and Photography do have some premium money for awards, but not necessarily in all classes or categories.

Where can I see things entered in contests?

Entries for different contests are in various places on the Fairgrounds.
Creative Arts entries are displayed in Building A for the entire 10 days.
Horticulture entries are on display in Harvey Convention Center South Hall during the last 3 days of the Fair.
Photography entries are on display in Harvey Convention Center South Hall for the entire 10 days.
The Pasture & Wildlife Plant Identification Contest and Public Speaking contest occur on the first Friday and first Saturday of the Fair. They are primarily closed to the public while they occur, but results are posted online after the contests.


When can I see animals in the barns?

We are constantly changing animals. Depending on the type of animal you would like to see, check the livestock schedule to see what we will have in the barns. There are a few nights there will not be any animals due to cleaning of the barns for more animals to come in.

Can I pet the animals in the barns?

For your safety, these animals are not be to petted. Only the animals in the petting zoo can be touched. Please wash your hands after petting the animals in the petting zoo.

Can I feed the animals in the barns?

No. These are show animals and are on strict diets.

What precautions should I take in the barns and after leaving the barns?

Children should be supervised at all times. Avoid animals when they are being walked due to horns and they startle easily. Please do not bring strollers into barns due to risk of being turned over and not to get animal waste on stroller wheels. Wash hands with soap and water after leaving any animal facility.

Educational Fun

What educational activities are available during the Fair?

AgriWorld is presented each year during the Fair through cooperation with several businesses and organizations. The 15,000 square foot display offers a unique educational opportunity to help students relate the foods, fibers, and other products they use each day to the industry that produces them with information about science and technology involved. The exhibit is open throughout the Fair. Tours are available for school groups on weekdays of the Fair. Go to the AgriWorld page to complete an online registration form to register a group to attend.
Other educational attractions change from year to year.
