Academic Challenge Quiz Timeline

Monday and Tuesday, November 17-18 and Thursday and Friday, November 20-21, 2008

  • Preliminary Academic Challenge Quiz matches - See Bracket for specific times and dates.  The remainder of the matches will be held January 20 through February 3 in 2009.  Times and dates will be finalized after the number of schools participating has been determined.

 

Art Contest Timeline

Art Contest entries will be submitted in November to allow ample time for judging by TJC volunteers prior to the end of their Fall Semester.

  • Judging of Computer Science Fair projects from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m.   Students should be present for judging.

General Agriculture Products Identification Contest Timeline

Monday, January 12, 2009

  • Submit Student Registrations.
  • Registered schools should register for one of three time blocks - 9:00, 10:30, and 1:15.  Each time block will be divided into 2 groups.  Groups may be mixed age levels to accommodate schools with a wide range of grade levels.  Every effort will be made to divide students to prevent the intimidation factor of competing at the same time as older students.

  • Principals and administrators should submit nominations for the Outstanding Educator recognitions by 5:00 p.m.  Nomination forms may be submitted by mail, e-mail or fax. Please send a photo of the nominee in jpg format by e-mail to be included in the recognition of the educators.

  • 3rd Grade Spelling Bee - 12:30 p.m.

 

Writing Contest Timeline

Writing entries are now due in October to allow ample time for judging by volunteers from UT Tyler before their semester ends.

Thursday, November 9, 2008

  • Writing prompt will be e-mailed to schools who registered for the Writing Contest by submitting the School and Group Registration on October 7, 2008.

Thursday, October 9 through Friday, October 17, 2008

  • Writing will occur at the schools during a one-hour class period.  Writing will be as a first draft with no previous pre-writing activities related to the prompt. 
  • The school will select the three entries for submission to the Academic Rodeo.  Students may then proofread and make minor edits to produce the final copies for submission.  Please see Writing Contest rules for specific formatting of entries.

  • Submit Student Registrations form for Writing entries AND Writing entries to the East Texas State Fair office.  Essays may NOT be faxed.  They should be delivered to the office or mailed to arrive by 5:00 p.m.
