This category is open to students in middle school (grades 6-8) and high school (grades 9-12).
Rules:
To be updated by end of July 2008
- Project must represent the work of the individual student
and must be verified as such by a sponsor on
documentation submitted with the project.
- Software - Students
may use a commercially produced web page program to create
the project.
- Web designers should give attention to: page
layout, creativity, navigational scheme, graphics/multimedia
use, site content, educational validity, grammatical usage,
and originality.
- The project must be submitted on a CD
ROM with accompanying graphics and sounds. Label the CD
with: title, sponsor, grade level, contest, campus, and
send in a re-sealable plastic bag. If a project cannot
be easily run from the CD it will be disqualified. Teachers
should be aware of ISO 9660 standards for CD compatibility
issues. CDRW is not recommended. Please preview entries
on a different computer and browser to ensure the project
will function properly away from the machine on which
it was created.
- Brief step-by-step printed instructions for
starting the web site must also be included.
- The student
is responsible for securing a release form from any individual
whose name, photograph, and/or other information is included
on the Web site. No professional photographs with registered
trademarks. Be aware of state and federal copyright laws.
Although a work may be freely accessible on the Internet
and contain no statement of copyright, copyright law provides
that such works are protected. Students must assume that
works are protected by copyright until they learn otherwise,
and must receive permission to use such work.
- Attention must
be given to cross-browser capabilities. Use the latest
browser.
- Be aware of monitor capabilities, such as resolution
and screen size. Design with 15" monitor in mind.
Students MUST be present for judging.

Computer Science Fair Contest Timeline
(See Academic Rodeo Timeline for specific dates and deadlines.)
- Sponsors should check with the Primary School Contact
to see that the School/Organization
Registration Form has been submitted for the
school. See the Academic
Rodeo Timeline for specific deadline.
- Select 3 entries in each category from each contest level
(elementary, middle school or high school) of the school
to submit for the contest.
- Contest sponsor should coordinate with other contest sponsors
to register the students selected for the contest using
the Student
Registration Form by the designated deadline.
- Submit entries to the East Texas State Fair office at
2112 W. Front Street by the deadline.
- All students, except Desktop Publishing participants,
attend the Computer Science Fair Contest for judging of
their entries.
- The Academic Rodeo Timeline will indicate the date when
winners will be announced.
- Computer Science Fair entries and/or results will be on
display throughout the Academic Rodeo.
- Students submitting winning entries will be recognized
at the Academic Rodeo Awards Program. Students and/or school
sponsors should attend to accept awards for the school.
- Desktop Publishing entries will be stored at the fair office to be displayed again during the East Texas State Fair.
- Projects submitted on CD will be returned to schools at the conclusion of the Academic Rodeo. Recognition of the project work will be included in any Academic Rodeo display. When possible, these projects will be displayed in a slide show presentation during the Academic Rodeo and the East Texas State Fair.
- Following the East Texas State Fair, students or sponsors should collect entries during the designated pick-up time period. Items not collected will become the property of the East Texas State Fair and will be destroyed.
