This category is open to students in high school (grades 9 through 12).
Rules:
To be updated by end of July 2008
- All programs are to be 100% created by the submitting student
or team of students and must be verified as such by a sponsor on
documentation submitted with the project.
- Students may work
individually or in teams consisting of no more than two
(2) students.
- The program should be written in Java or
C++.
- The program must be submitted in an executable format
on a CD-ROM, and include a complete printout of all source
code and internal documentation. Be aware of ISO 9660
standards for CD compatibility issues. CDRW is not recommended.
Label the CD with: title, sponsor, grade level, contest,
campus, and send in a resealable plastic bag. Please preview
entries on a different computer to ensure the project will
function properly away from the machine on which it was
created.
- The program must include electronic documentation.
This should include directions for starting and exiting
the program, subject area, and intended age or grade level
of the program user.
- The program must include branching
and be in a menu driven format that returns to a main
menu.
- The program must include both text and graphics. You
are encouraged to include sound and animation.
- Hardware
- Students may use Apple Macintosh or Windows to create
the program.
- Tutorial - programs that may be used as a tutorial program in any school related subject.
- Games - single or multiple player games.
- Applications - programs that have a specific
purpose or target a particular application need.
Students must be present during judging.
Computer Science Fair Contest Timeline

- Sponsors should check with the Primary School Contact
to see that the School/Organization
Registration Form has been submitted for the
school. See the Academic
Rodeo Timeline for specific deadline.
- Select 3 entries in each category from each contest level
(elementary, middle school or high school) of the school
to submit for the contest.
- Contest sponsor should coordinate with other contest sponsors
to register the students selected for the contest using
the Student
Registration Form by the designated deadline.
- Submit entries to the East Texas State Fair office at
2112 W. Front Street by the deadline.
- All students, except Desktop Publishing participants,
attend the Computer Science Fair Contest for judging of
their entries.
- The Academic Rodeo Timeline will indicate the date when
winners will be announced.
- Computer Science Fair entries and/or results will be on
display throughout the Academic Rodeo.
- Students submitting winning entries will be recognized
at the Academic Rodeo Awards Program. Students and/or school
sponsors should attend to accept awards for the school.
- Desktop Publishing entries will be stored at the fair office to be displayed again during the East Texas State Fair.
- Projects submitted on CD will be returned to schools at the conclusion of the Academic Rodeo. Recognition of the project work will be included in any Academic Rodeo display. When possible, these projects will be displayed in a slide show presentation during the Academic Rodeo and the East Texas State Fair.
- Following the East Texas State Fair, students or sponsors should collect entries during the designated pick-up time period. Items not collected will become the property of the East Texas State Fair and will be destroyed.
