This category is open to students in elementary (grades 3-5) and middle school (grades 6-8).
Rules:
To be updated by end of July 2008
- All multimedia projects are to be 100% created by the submitting
student.

- Project must represent the work of the individual student.
- Multimedia
projects must include at least four of the following elements:
- Text
- Graphics
- Sound
- Animation
- Video
(motion)
- Scripting
- Hyperlinks to supporting
web sites
- Projects must include branching
and be in a menu driven format that returns to a main
menu.
- Hardware & software - Students may use Apple
Macintosh and Microsoft Windows to create the project.
- The
project must be submitted on a CD ROM with accompanying
drivers, players, and/or viewers (Hyper Studio or PowerPoint
viewer). Label the CD with: title, sponsor, grade level,
contest, campus, and send in a resealable plastic
bag. If a project cannot be easily run from the CD it will
be disqualified. Teachers should be aware of ISO 9660 standards
for CD compatibility issues. CDRW is not recommended. Please
preview entries on a different computer to ensure the project
will function properly away from the machine on which it
was created.
- Documentation - Each entry must include a brief,
typewritten paper describing the development of the project.
The paper must explain the purpose of the project and describe
the intended audience . It must list all of the hardware
(include exact computer name and type, scanners, cameras,
etc.) and software (include all version numbers, i.e. "Hyper studio 4.1").
The student will provide credit for all non-original materials
such as clip art, sound, video, and other resources. Documentation
should also include verification of the student's
work by the teacher/sponsor . Failure to provide
the above information will result in disqualification.
- Project
Content: The content or theme is open to any appropriate
subject related to the school curriculum. Various
types of projects may include stories, tutorials, games,
surveys, lab experiments, documentaries, etc.
Students must be present during judging

Computer Science Fair Contest Timeline
(See Academic Rodeo Timeline for specific dates and deadlines.)
- Sponsors should check with the Primary School Contact
to see that the School/Organization
Registration Form has been submitted for the
school. See the Academic
Rodeo Timeline for specific deadline.
- Select 3 entries in each category from each contest level
(elementary, middle school or high school) of the school
to submit for the contest.
- Contest sponsor should coordinate with other contest sponsors
to register the students selected for the contest using
the Student
Registration Form by the designated
deadline.
- Submit entries to the East Texas State Fair office at
2112 W. Front Street by the deadline.
- All students, except Desktop Publishing participants,
attend the Computer Science Fair Contest for judging of
their entries.
- The Academic Rodeo Timeline will indicate the date when
winners will be announced.
- Computer Science Fair entries and/or results will be on
display throughout the Academic Rodeo.
- Students submitting winning entries will be recognized
at the Academic Rodeo Awards Program. Students and/or school
sponsors should attend to accept awards for the school.
- Desktop Publishing entries will be stored at the fair office to be displayed again during the East Texas State Fair.
- Projects submitted on CD will be returned to schools at the conclusion of the Academic Rodeo. Recognition of the project work will be included in any Academic Rodeo display. When possible, these projects will be displayed in a slide show presentation during the Academic Rodeo and the East Texas State Fair.
- Following the East Texas State Fair, students or sponsors should collect entries during the designated pick-up time period. Items not collected will become the property of the East Texas State Fair and will be destroyed.
