Rules:

  1. Eligibility:
    1. Each FFA Chapter and organized 4-H Club can enter one team per Chapter or 4-H Club plus one team for each Agricultural Science Teacher or 4-H leader.
    2. Teams shall consist of four (4) persons who are members of the same Chapter or Club. Absolutely no substitutions from other Chapters or Clubs are allowed. Team score will be derived from three high individual scores on each team. To be eligible, team members must be enrolled in school, below college level, and be a member of the Chapter or Club they represent.
  2. There will be no entry fees, but the team coach should notify by mail the East Texas State Fair Assoc., 2112 W. Front Street, Tyler, TX 75702 or by email at price@etstatefair.com by Sept. 12, 2008, of teams intention to enter the contest.
  3. Twenty-five (25) plants for the contest will be selected from the plant list of 50 plants shown. If additional information is needed, please contact the East Texas State Fair Association at (903) 597-2501 or the Natural Resources Conservation Service at 4209 Republic Dr., Tyler, Texas 75701, phone (903) 561-2050, Ext. 3.
  4. Contestants will be given score cards and will have one (1) minute to identify, write-in the common name, and check the characteristics of each of the plants in the contest. Scoring will be by points. IF THE NAME IS INCORRECT, no credit will be given for characteristics identified. Plants used may be mounted or live specimens, or a combination of the two. In the event of a tie, judges will decide who shall receive the award and their decision will be final.

Presentation of awards will be held at 12:00 noon, Friday, Sept. 19, 2008. Trophies will be presented to the five (5) top teams and five (5) top individuals.

One (1) scholarship will be awarded to the High Point High School Senior by the Smith County Soil and Water Conservation District.
