Academic Rodeo Contest Information
The annual Academic Rodeo currently offers the following contest opportunities. Click on the specific contest from the list below for rules. Resources to assist in preparing students for competition may be available for a specific contest. Use most current rules for each contest. All contests revised in June or July 2008. - Academic Challenge Quiz
Students in grades 6 through 8 grades compete in a quiz bowl tournament.
- Art Contest
Students in grades 1 through 12 submit artwork.
- Computer Science Fair
Students in grades 3 through 12 create computer projects in several categories.
- Engineering Challenge - Some revisions to rules for Elementary coming soon.
Students in grades 3 through 8 work in teams to build a Mars Rover from Lego blocks.
- General
Agriculture Identification Contest
Students in grades 3through 12 identify agriculture products produced in the state of Texas.
- High School Pentathlon - Formerly Math Pentathlon
Students in grades 9 through 12 will compete in teams to complete math, science, and engineering problems.
- Kinder Critters Contest
Kindergarten students submit create “critters” from common items.
- Mathletic Team Contest
Teams of fourth and fifth grade students complete challenging math problems.
- Mindset
Breaking Experience
This is a creative problem solving contest for teams of elementary, middle school, and high school students.
- One-Act
Play Festival
Drama groups of 6th through 8th students perform one-act plays.
- Science Fair
Students in grades 3 through 12 submit projects based on scientific experimentation. Students in grades K through 2 may complete a class project for exhibition.
- Spelling
Bee
This is a traditional spelling bee for grades 2 and 3.
- Writing
Contest
Students in grades 4 through 12 submit essays on a required topic.
- Youth Fashion Show - Change for 2009
Students model garments that they have constructed or purchased. Youth Fashion Show is no longer limited to FCCLA and 4-H students. Any student in the eligible age ranges may participate.
- Administrator/Teacher Academic Challenge Quiz
Administrators and teachers from each school compete in a modified version of the traditional Academic Challenge Quiz.
- Outstanding Educators
The East Texas State Fair honors outstanding educators nominated by their respective schools.
