26th Annual Smith County Hay Show

Rules & Regulations

The Hay Show is an educational event for area forage growers and

as a means of raising money for youth, conservation activities, and scholarships.

Hay raised in Smith County or by a producer that lives in Smith County is eligible.

Entries consist of one square bale of hay or one feed sack full of hay from a round bale.

Hay is judged by chemical score as follows: % crude protein + (100 - % ADF)

Example: 20% crude protein hay with 25% ADF = 20 + (100 - 25) = 95.

Only the top scoring bales in total points will be sold at auction during the barbecue on September 26th.

The top two scoring bales will be on display during the East Texas State Fair,

September 26th through October 1st. The number of bales sold at auction

will be determined by the Hay Show Committee. Only two entries from any one producer

will be sold at the auction, regardless of the final placing.

If the entry to be auctioned is from a large round bale, only the sack of hay will be sold at auction.
