Rules:

Projects will be judged using the following criteria:
Construction and Workmanship 40 pointsSound structural design and Balance 30 pointsPractical utility and Design 20 pointsShowmanship
(How well the participants field questions about their project and show it to the judge)
10 points
- Project Awards: Blue Ribbon, Red Ribbon, or White Ribbon
- Grand and Reserve Champion awards will be presented to the top outstanding projects.
- 1st, 2nd, and 3rd Sweepstakes awards will be presented to the schools or clubs accumulating the greatest number of points.
- Each participant will receive an East Texas State Fair Ag Mechanics Cap.
- All projects must have been constructed between October 2010 and September 2011under the supervision of the Agricultural Science Teacher or 4-H Leader.
- No more than 5 participants can be involved in a single project.
- All shop projects must be accompanied by a bill of materials with costs, drawings, and plans with measurements, and a photo journal demonstrating the timeline of construction of the project and student involvement in the construction.
- Entries must be in place by the designated time.
- Only 1 trailer per school or club is allowed.
- No assistance in loading and staging of the project is available from the East Texas State Fair.
- The East Texas State Fair is not responsible for any damage or loss of projects and recommends that items such as batteries be removed from the project when it is not under the club’s supervision.
- Due to the indoor location of the projects, no gas-powered projects will be accepted.
- Projects may not be larger than 10 feet in width and 30 feet in length and must be no taller than 7 ½ feet for clearance purposes.
- Items will not be sold at the conclusion of the contest.

- Livestock Equipment (squeeze chutes, feeders, mineral boxes, headgates, etc.)
- Farm Equipment (mowers, shredders, packers, hay forks, fertilizer distributors, gates, etc.)
- Recreational Projects (yard tables, swings, benches, BBQ sets, etc.)
- Woodworking Projects (bookshelves, show boxes, gun cabinets, chairs, etc.)
- Farm electrical conveniences (brooders, elevators, conveyors, etc.)
- Trailers – Implement
- Trailers – Utility
- Trailers – Stock
- Shop Equipment (presses, shop tables, carts, stands, etc.)
- Hunting and Sporting Items
